Patricia and Stuart Farber
As a student here on campus Patricia Farber lived life to the fullest; she was a serious student, achieving Dean’s list status while increasing campus spirit as head cheerleader, and was an active member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Trish was voted homecoming queen in 1966 and Miss Cal State Long Beach in 1967.
She earned an undergraduate degree in English with a minor in music, followed by a Teaching Credential and a MA degree graduating Summa cum Laude in Educational Administration. She later earned a Life Credential in Mathematics.
Her time at CSULB prepared Trish for a wonderful career as an educator that spanned more than thirty years. Starting as an elementary school teacher, Trish went on to work as a curriculum specialist in Mathematics and English before returning to the classroom in 1983. During her career Trish received Teacher of the Year status five times and was awarded the very prestigious Crystal Apple award by NBC TV and the Golden Apple Award by ABC TV. These are only a few of the accolades to her name. She retired in 2005 from the Desert Sands Unified School District.
Trish is a lifelong learner and a superb role model for all teachers and students. Her enthusiasm, her innovativeness and her genuine concern for the teaching profession are exemplary and we are so honored to call her one of our own.
Trish continues to demonstrate her interest and pride in CSULB through support of CSULB’s Student Athletes, President’s Scholars, Fine Arts Affiliates, the ASI Development Advisory Committee, CSULB’s Alumni Association and of course the College of Education through her annual Patricia A. Farber Merit Scholarship which is awarded each fall.
Dr. Stuart L. Farber became a part of CSULB when he received his Master of Arts from the College of Health and Human Services at CSULB in 1958. As Dean of students and Professor Emeritus, he has also been an active alumni; involved with President’s Associates, 49er Athletic Association, and also the 2011 Golden Graduates Giving Campaign Chairman.
The College of Education (CED) expresses gratitude to all scholarship donors who continue to enhance the quality of education students experience at CSULB.
