Sue Parsons
Born in Bellflower and raised in Long Beach, Sue is a true California native. She obtained both her B.A. in Mathematics and German and M.A. in Mathematics at the BEACH. She recalls her master’s graduation ceremony with special tenderness because her father passed away only two weeks after attending.
She was the director and founder of the Cerritos College Teacher Training Academy Program (TRAC) and taught mathematics at Cerritos College. Sue was saluted in 1999 by the Association of Community College Trustees as the National Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year. Sue was also deeply honored in 2005 as a CSULB Distinguished Alumna.
In August 1999, Cerritos College launched the Teacher Training Academy, known as Teacher TRAC. This pioneering program graduated the first cohort from a California community college teacher preparation program to completion of a university integrated program in just two years, including earning their bachelor’s degree, student teaching, and preliminary credentials. Sue is passionate about the role community colleges play in the preparation of future teachers. She feels it is crucial to build partnerships and pathways that afford students the opportunity to become teachers and return to their communities to teach.
The College of Education (CED) expresses gratitude to all scholarship donors who continue to enhance the quality of education students experience at CSULB.
