Rodney Steiner

The Rodney Steiner Scholarship was established by Dr. Rodney Steiner, CSULB Professor of Geography from 1956-1994. He taught in the Department until the time of his death in 1994. Dr. Steiner grew up in Los Angeles, earned his Ph.D. in Geography at the University of Washington and joined the CSULB faculty as an Assistant Professor in 1956; His academic specialty was Water Resource Analysis and Management and all facets of Geography of California. He co-authored a textbook on the Geography of California and a book titled “Los Angeles, The Centrifugal City”. In addition, he served at different times as the President of the Association of Pacific Coast Geographers and Editor of the Yearbook of the Pacific Coast Geographers. Dr. Steiner was a very active scholar and teacher and well respected by his colleagues and students. The scholarship fund was established in 1995 to sponsor activities and/or services that directly support the instructional program in Geography.
