Robert T. Holmes

Robert Thomas Holmes, PhD was a Marketing professor at California State University, Long Beach from 1961-1986. He loved teaching and understood the struggles of college students to pay for their education. In 2004, Dr. Holmes and his wife, Emma, established the Robert Thomas Holmes Scholarship with annual gifts of $5,000. When Dr. Holmes passed away in 2009, he provided funds from his estate to establish a permanent endowment for the scholarship. His wish was to assist all undergraduate business majors at the College of Business Administration so they could pursue and excel in their field of study.
“Robert Holmes was a gracious person, a consensus builder in the department,” said Professor Emeritus Forrest Harding, who taught in the marketing department with Holmes. “He was widely respected by students, his colleagues and the administration. He was kind of an old-school guy, crew haircut and all, who had a love for the university. You can see this clearly reflected in his generous gift”.
