Luster E. and Audrey Nichol Hauth

Luster E. and Audrey Nichol Hauth

After the Luster E. and Audrey Nichol Hauth Center for Communication Skills opened in 1999, scholarships in each donor’s name were established: Luster E. Hauth Scholarship and Audrey Nichol Hauth Scholarship.

Why did Luster make a large donation to create the Hauth Center and his scholarship? He was a professor in the Communication Studies Dept. for 28 years. He appreciated being a professor at CSULB all those years and felt it was time to support his university.

Audrey felt the same way; her dedication was to CSULB where she graduated in 1967 and then taught at Westminster High School for 20 years. Like Luster, she believed in public education so much that she decided to donate to what she calls her “higher cause.” After she, Luster, and Sheree and Linda, their daughters, composed their “family mission,” which ends “as we strive to make our world better,” giving scholarships became even more important to her. Her scholarship is like Luster’s where both are looking for Communication Studies majors or minors who have a 3.3 GPA or better, show financial need, can write an outstanding essay, and are excellent communicators who are looking forward to working in the Center.

Each year Luster and Audrey look forward to selecting their next scholarship recipients.
