Faculty 1965-2000

Born and raised in San Diego, Dr. Leslie K. Wynston received his undergraduate degree from California State University, San Diego and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from UCLA. Despite numerous job-offers to work as a protein biochemist, Wynston chose to attend the Northwestern Medical School in Chicago.

Eventually, Wynston felt his California roots calling back to him. As he prepared to leave Chicago, he realized he enjoyed working with students more than working by himself. Dr. Wynston applied to work at CSU schools because he knew teaching was the primary function he wanted in a job.

During his tenure at CSULB, Wynston was instrumental in developing the B.S degree in Biochemistry. He served as chair of the Pre- Health Professions Advisory Committee, graduate council, and several international student committees. Dr. Wynston was the President of the Western Association of Advisors for the Health Professions, and later, Secretary of the national organization. He also served as a consultant for North American Aviation, now Rockwell International, conducting research on osteoporosis resulting from zero gravity of space travel.

Since retiring from CSULB, Wynston has joined the Legacy Society and has been a prominent College of Natural Sciences & Mathematics Fellow.

The College of Natural Sciences & Mathematics expresses gratitude to all scholarship donors who continue to enhance the quality of education students experience at CNSM.
