Kenneth E. Lindgren

As a young adult, Lindgren attended CSULB, and was an active player in Water Polo. He returned to CSULB as a Water Polo coach, winning his first season with a 14-12 record. That was the start to coaching the next 24 seasons. He led the University team to seven NCAA appearances. Lindgren was an Olympic official for the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, and then assumed a role as an assistant with the women’s national team as the USA claimed silver at the Sydney Olympics. In his coaching career, he produced 32 All Americans and 8 Olympians.

Outside of the sports at CSULB, Lindgren was also a dedicated, highly regarded mathematics instructor. He joined the campus’ Department of Mathematics and Statistics in fall 1985 and continued teaching in the department until he retired following the fall semester in 2008.

In the mathematics department, Ken was a compelling mentor to math students, he knew how to make students engage, keep a classroom interactive. Ken was adamant about creating a connection with every single student in his classroom. His key goal was to have students be critical thinkers and process their learning.
