Joan Schlaich

The Joan Schlaich Scholarship Fund was established in memory of longtime CSULB Department of Dance Department Chair, Joan Schlaich. Joan started her career at CSULB in 1965 and helped establish the Department of Dance in 1970. She oversaw the creation of the first Dance BFA in the CSU as well as the MFA in Dance. Under Joan’s leadership, the CSULB Department of Dance became one of the best in the country. Joan’s crowning achievement was the completion of the Dance Center, one of the top university dance facilities in the United States. Ms. Schlaich was also very active within the university community and served on the Academic Senate for many years.
