Eileen Johansen

This recently endowed scholarship was established in memory of Eileen Johansen, a 1989 alumna of our Department who died tragically in the summer of 1998. Eileen was the first GIS intern from the CSULB Geography Department. Because of her success, she paved the way for more interns in surrounding cities. By seeing her work many people grew confident that CSULB geography students and graduates could make important GIS contributions. She was very active in the GIS community in Southern California as well as in her church, the local Sierra Club, and her employee credit union. She was a wonderful person who is sorely missed by all who knew her. This scholarship is a very fitting way to continue Eileen’s legacy
