Dr. Burton Anderson
The Burton Anderson Scholarship was established to honor the memory of Dr. Burton Anderson, CSULB Professor of Geography from 1958 to 1979. The Burton Anderson Scholarship was established by his wife, Mary Lou Anderson, to honor her husband following his death in 1979. Burton Anderson joined the Geography Department in 1958 as an Assistant Professor and served as Professor of Geography until the time of his death. Professor Anderson specialized in Economic Geography and developed expertise in the Geography of the United States and Canada. Dr. Anderson was well regarded by his colleagues and students, was an active member of the Association of Pacific Coast Geographers and had the distinction of chairing many of the MA Thesis Committees in the early years of the Department’s graduate program.
