Connie Merritt
Connie Merritt (1969, BSN, School of Nursing), used her education as a springboard into many different careers and interests from Critical Care to the Emergency Department, flying planes, scuba diving, selling real estate, and is a national keynote specialist and horse whisperer who share life-changing secrets for getting the spark back. Widowed in her mid-twenties and unable to have own her children, she coached and mentored several young women through college and support students with a resilient spirit, debt-free financial stewardship, and achievement from their Grit (pluck and perseverance).
The Connie Merritt Endowed Student Scholarship in the School of Nursing was established in memory of Mr. Lynn Donald Hughes (1980, BS, Department of Health Sciences) her beloved husband of 22 years passed away suddenly in 2016. They both agreed that the key to achieving success in life depends upon perseverance and an internal spark that gives someone the strength to get back up after each fall and the drive to finish the race.
