Catherine A. Allen
Catherine A. Allen (October 3, 1963 – October 30, 2014) was an alumnus of Cal State Long Beach, spoke highly of her college education, and made lifelong friends throughout college. During her 18 year career at Chubb Ltd. Insurance in Los Angeles, Catherine was known for her enthusiasm, dedication to her career, and deep concern for others. Catherine was rapidly promoted at Chubb eventually becoming the Vice President of Workers Compensation Claims. So many colleagues and friends were touched by Catherine’s enthusiasm, her positive outlook, and willingness to help others. She had a special gift in communicating and influencing people with a warm and engaging style. In this spirit, we are delighted to give this scholarship to deserving students in her honor. Catherine would be thrilled to know that students at Cal State Long Beach will be receiving this support through Chubb to help further their education. The award was created by James A. Darling, Regional Executive Officer, Pacific Region, Chubb Los Angeles, and James V. Lalor, Regional Field Claims Manager, Chubb Los Angeles in September, 2015.
Catherine A. Allen graduated from California State University, Long Beach in 1988. During her time as a student, Cathy was involved in many areas of the campus including Hispanic Students Business Association (HSBA) one of the eleven student organizations in the Associated Business Students Organizations Council (ABSOC) at the College of Business Administration. During her senior year (1987-1988) she served as president of ABSOC, establishing leadership and guidance among fellow business students during her time in office.
The friends and family that contributed to the endowed scholarship wanted to honor Cathy’s memory and create a way to inspire others to follow her example. This scholarship directly supports students who are currently studying business, are full time and directly involved with ABSOC or one of its member organizations like HSBA.
The College of Business (COB) expresses gratitude to all scholarship donors.
