Alpha Delta Kappa - Zeta Chapter - Gail Goodman
Gail Goodman is a proud and grateful immigrant. Born in Ontario, Canada, Gail emigrated with her family to Southern California in 1953. She wasn’t a remarkable student. Being average was just fine. Gail thought she would become a secretary, so she focused on business classes. She met her future husband her senior year of high school and was married the following January.
Gail then worked in a variety of jobs. While working at a printing company, Gail began volunteering in a special education classroom at an elementary school in Whittier. A teacher she worked with encouraged her to, “Go to school and become a teacher! This is what you were meant to do!”
At 38 she took her first college classes at Rio Hondo College. She completed her AA at L.B.C.C. and was granted Honors at Entrance to California State College Dominguez Hills. Gail continued on to complete her multiple subject credential, special education credential, and M.A. in Education Administration. Gail was hired by Long Beach Unified School District to open a Pre K-K Special Day Class at Burcham Elementary. She went on to hold different positions in a variety of school settings, including Primary Special Day Class teacher, Resource Specialist for K-5 students, and Special Education Lead Teacher, mentoring and assisting all Special Education Teachers. She was a fierce advocate for students with special needs.
Shortly before completing her Special Education Credential she and her husband, Jim, adopted their son James. After his recent loss, Jim and Gail created a scholarship at L.B.C.C. in his memory.
Within months of joining Zeta Chapter of A.D.K., Gail was tapped to become President. She has held a variety of offices over the last 25 years and has had a major role in organizing our scholarship teas. Gail has loved watching Zeta chapter grow and become the philanthropic organization that it is today.
The College of Education (CED) expresses gratitude to all scholarship donors who continue to enhance the quality of education students experience at CSULB.
